About Bardo

Bardo is an Android note-taking app that combines convenience, privacy, and functionality. It includes a graph of connections, OCR, and speech-to-text features, all seamlessly integrated. Instant Note opens a new note as soon as you sign in. The app delivers a wide range of useful capabilities and, best of all, it is free with no ads or subscriptions.

I designed Bardo carefully and originally built it for myself (as a developer) because I was not happy with Google Keep and could not find a good alternative. So I decided to create Bardo, my first app.

You will appreciate that it offers every useful feature you might need along with a terminal, Easter eggs, multiple themes, and a thoughtful design.

I explored every app on Google Play, even the paid ones. One day in an Apple store I tried Apple Notes on an iPhone, and that is when I came up with the idea to add a search bar to the main menu.

I gathered the features that felt genuinely useful from each app and then added my own ideas. That is how Bardo was born.

ITIB — Integrated Terminal In Bardo

There is also a terminal in Bardo. It is called ITIB, which stands for Integrated Terminal In Bardo. So far, it is not particularly important in the application, but in the future, in Bardo 1.1 Beta, it will take on a new role. But for now, it is just there. Yes, there was an advertisement in Bardo, in the form of a banner at the bottom, then it was removed and another advertisement was added.

There were plans to add Purchases, some credits for AI use. Yes, the app had AI functionality, text compression, error correction, and a personal AI assistant. But that was removed because I just calculated the costs and freaked out...

Just so you understand, I didn't learn how to use Android Studio, I learned through ChatGPT. It gave me hints and so on. Thank you, GPT 4o. So, when it wrote the first code in Kotlin, I saw the words "fun main" in the code, specifically the word "Fun." I was confused; I thought ChatGPT was writing joke code. I still laugh about it.

Bardo was not developed by me, but by AI. Even though I was the brains behind it all, I came up with everything and the AI simply translated the ideas into code. In fact, everything was created through AI. I don't remember exactly, but here is the list: GPT 4o, GPT o1, GPT o3 mini-high, GPT o3, o1 pro mode, GPT 5 Codex, Gemini 2.0 Flash, Gemini 2.5 pro/flash, Claude Opus 3, Claude Sonnet 4, Sonnet 3.7, Opus 4, Opus 4.1, Mistral Le Chat, Grok 3 Thinking, Grok 4 and Claude Code. Yes, that's a lot! But right now, I prefer Sonnet 4 and Codex GPT 5.

Also, I'm a big fan of Sam Altman, I don't know why. Maybe because he helped me. He created ChatGPT. Maybe he's just a cool guy. I don't know, but I watch all his interviews and dream of meeting him. But that's not what this is about, it's not related to Bardo.

Oh, and when there was AI functionality in Bardo, ChatGPT API was used.

We are TypexAI, a one-person team that believes in simple and elegant note-taking solutions.

Philosophy

We build tools that help you think rather than distract you. Bardo is a space for your ideas, not just another app filled with notifications.

Also, the user should only pay for what the developer spends.

For example, if it is a server that the developer pays for monthly or annually. Then the user must watch advertisements or purchase subscriptions. If there is no server, as in Bardo, then everything is free and without advertisements.

Donations

We also make a point of donating funds to those in need through ShareTheMeal. We believe that not everyone is fortunate enough to be born into favourable circumstances, which is why we donate money. To date, we have donated approximately €19 and distributed 154 meals between June 29 and September 8.
